In the Fall of 1929, an entrepreneur opened the first Harley-Davidson® motorcycle dealership in Dallas, Texas… and simply called it “Harley-Davidson® of Dallas“. His name is lost to history and searches of old Dallas business archives and Harley-Davidson® Motor Company archives come up with nothing but a start date and general address of Main and Elm; until recently, a local resident remembered that the original address was 2824 Main St. This brave entrepreneur prospered during the Great Depression because he bet on a winner… Harley-Davidson® Motorcycles!
The shop has been owned by a handful of people over the last 80 years. It moved out of Deep Ellum, where some “old timers” said they used to hang out on Saturday, at the chain that separated the Sales and Service Departments. Eddie Conley moved the dealership from its downtown location to Plano Road in 1974, moving again in 1985 to Shiloh Road, and again in 1999, to Allen, Texas where everyone thought they were crazy because it was all cow pastures and farms. Today, it’s a thriving community with neighborhoods, fantastic restaurants, shopping and one of the best High School football teams in the State of Texas.
